...I also have a question about how to probe a moyo built around an ogeima shimari...

That depends a lot on the exact locations of (say) Black's stones building the moyo, and on the proximity of White's nearest stone(s) or the strengths of his outlying groups, but I'll answer in general terms.

Conventional Go notation defines the lower left corner point as A1; I'll use that corner for discussion purposes. If the ogeima is at C4+F3, White will often invade at either C6 or H3 (a one-space jump from one of the shimari stones).

If C6 is unanswered in the corner, White will typically follow with C3 for sabaki. Or if H3 is unanswered in the corner, he'll typically follow with the placement of D3 or attachment of E3. Alternatively, if Black answers in the corner, presumably White has enough time to loosely develop the outside stone or he can use it to pincer or otherwise attack a floating stone(s), or he can employ sacrifice tactics (using C6/H3's aji to efficiently press/squeeze from the outside).

It can be irritating for others to scroll past non-backgammon material (I've almost left this forum a couple of times because of it). So, while I'm happy to field an occasional question about Go or whatever here (for you and up-to-several others who might be interested), out of respect to bgonliners as a whole, I prefer to see OT (i.e., non-backgammon) threads limited to a post or two.

For the most part, I recommend that you look elsewhere online for answers to Go questions. There is a wealth of resources.

Good luck,

Nack
