I have to admit that I would just have made the 3-point OTB. No blots and a good point, vs three blots and a slot. I understand that we are ahead in the race (slightly) and that making the 3 makes it difficult to improve our game further, I understand that running leaves the very useful bar-point slotted, leaves the blots in front of stripped points, and starts the extricate the back checkers before they get hemmed in more, I understand there is some duplication, but... my plan would be to make the point and then next turn activate the back checkers. Maybe the problem is that it might well not be possible to run past the 9 point, so that I'd leave hittable blots in front of a mass of attackers.

Still hard for me to see that the 3-point would be hugely worse than running.
