In Response To: Neural Nets in Hardware Prototyped (Frank Berger)

In Othello, the OLU (Othello Logical Unit) built by Clarence Hewlett in the 1980's had an order of magnitude speed improvement over software. More recent research (http://www.cse.cuhk.edu.hk/~phwl/mt/public/archives/papers/othello_fpt04.pdf) estimates two orders of magnitude. I would expect the feed-forward part of a neural net to be vastly faster in hardware.
