What is the difference between these positions?

In position 2 you put a man on the bar. That's a huge difference. There are 4 rolls where she doesn't enter at all and with all other rolls, she needs part of the roll to enter and can use only the remaining number(s) to attack.

So in #2 it may be correct to take the risk and play 24/18, which is certainly wrong in #1.
