Unless you are an author usually selling millions of copies, the choice of the title is likely to be the editor's priviledge, which makes sense commercially since the editor is more likely to know what title will sell better. A friend of mine had the title of his novel revamped from "The Dark Face of Algebra" to "Travolta's Theorem", which was pretty silly but probably sold much better.
