more time data for rolling

Soon after I posted my message I realised I had forgotten to refer to the Meyer Dice Tube which, other than an electronic dice generator, is certainly the fastest means of generating a roll; and particularly suited to Speedgammon therefore. Of course, the mechanics and aesthetics of using it are much more of a jump from conventional rolling than is rolling into a baffle box. Neil didn't refer to it.
I posted a message here in December where I had found the dice tube to be two seconds per move quicker than rolling from cups; practically identical to your findings a few months later. For those tests, I simply took it that the players would shake for one second. An average (up and down) shaking rate is probably 4 - 5 per second (nearer 4, I guess). You did three shakes. I used a particular Dal Negro board, where the dice tend to roll a fair bit, and probably more than on the Taki board you used. These differences account for why my conventional rolls in my latest test took about 4.1 seconds to your 3.6.
I think an issue is that using a baffle box without cups or shaking, or using the Meyer Dice Tube justify shorter delay times than if the players roll conventionally; probably one and two seconds respectively.
