I don't like 24/18 when we don't have a lead in the race and when we have 13/8 available as a constructive 5. After 13/8, both 8/7 and 24/23 are destructive (in the sense that if I were given the choice not to play an ace at all, I would choose not to play the ace), so the question is which is the lesser evil. I slightly prefer 24/23 though wouldn't be surprised if 13/7 turns out to be slightly better.
