Anyone remember Bush-41? I paraphrase: "We're in deep doo-doo, now!"

With no obvious move, and a cube likely in the near future, I see three possibilities:

  • Maximum safety: bar/24, 6/4
  • Unstack: bar/24, 13/11
  • Play up: bar/22
The unstacking play may work even when we are hit, because the extra checker back could be used to anchor. Playing safe seems too passive. If we sit idle while White fills in his prime, we'll be dead. Sitting back might be worth considering if we had a racing advantage, but not here. Unstacking puts a blot in the outfield, and that could force White to attack outside rather than build his prime. That's a tempo we need. Of course, White could ignore an outside blot if he wishes, and go about the business of priming the remaining checker.

Playing up is a move White cannot ignore. He would prefer, perhaps, to slowly build a prime, but with our blot aimed him, he will be trying to hit, loose or otherwise. I don't like it much, but I don't like staying back either, and I don't want to have a second blot in the outfield.

My vote: bar/22. (My confidence that this is the best move: zero.)

Mike
