Robertie counts his blots too carefully to go for 13/7 6/4*. Everything hits back but 51 21 66--that's 31 hitting numbers total, including 5 double hits. 13/5 leaves only 21 hitting numbers. White doesn't want to be hit. Are the gains on the missing numbers, even combined with unstacking two points, worth the extra hitting numbers and the extra blot? Clearly not.

How many hitting numbers does 16/8 leave? A whopping 19 (4's plus combos = 15, minus double 1 = 14, plus four non-counted 7's = 18, plus double 6 = 19). As a native Bostonian might say, that's a wicked lot and it makes 16/8 wicked wicked committal. Especially since there's no guarantee the lonelyblot safeties if it's missed.

13/5 is starting to look really good, eh?
