Just because you and others would like to see a position is not a good justification. Many players would like paper and pencil to assist with pipcounting or other calculations. Should such allowance also be a rule?

There are indeed real arguments against position examining being legal. One is that even with the checker offset rule it demands that the opponent pay attention to you mo ing it back that could instead be spent examining the board. Also is it fair that the position seen can falsely change? Lastly elimination of it would be consistent with many other brain games; seems like a positive but could be argued.
