I am OK with different formulations of these general principles, but also like it if players announce their intentions "I am going to look at a few possibilities" or "I am going to play ... and think about the rest of the move" is useful for the opponent, because he knows what is happening and can pay attention, and also confirm whether the checkers moved are placed away from the other checkers clearly enough.
