Hasn't the whole idea of a 'touch move' been discarded in favour of a 'lift move'?

How can beginners be put off by a rule that is new to them? They are learning to play and therefore will learn how to manage any new 'lift rule' that might be adopted.

I do get the occasional dispute between players when opponents try out a move or two before making one. If you were to watch Julian Fetterlein play you'd see just how many times he tries out candidate moves. All the time this is going on his opponent is having to make a mental note of where the checkers actually originated.

I still reckon placing 'checkers' or 'markers' on the points played from is a workable solution, and obtaining them is simple because they don't have to match the original checkers at all - being different is the key. They will stand out and show the exact location of the 'lifted' checkers' original location.
