If the clocks at that time (10 years ago) were still mainly the analog variety, Mike's answer to your question will only mislead. The analog clock wasn't suited for BG the way it is for chess, and wasn't good for the game except in that it allowed directors to wave one around as a threat to matches of the Turtle vs. Snail variety. The threat alone was often enough to speed them up, or at least in was in Boston where I saw that happen. But if as a general policy, Mike objected to the use of those clocks, I'd see why. In what year would you say the time-delay clock came into general use in BG? (Not a RQ, I don't know the answer.)
