The third checker back is a definite asset here. If you don't see it as an asset you may have been tempted to pass. Sure, if it was elsewhere it would obviously enhance your racing chances but I'm talking about with the given pip count you'd much rather that checker be back. Until at least one of the 2pt or 3pt are filled in it remains an asset covering that ground in Grandell's home board. White leaves a shot immediately with 4 numbers...this is not your stereotypical 4pt holding game + bar point made so make your P/T decision based on the race alone, the guy back counts for plenty IMO.
