Hi Bob,
I didn’t have an opinion on clocks 10 years ago simply because I’d not even heard of the likelihood of them being used in backgammon.
I will freely admit that when I first heard mention of clock play I was, like many players, highly sceptical (as one often is of the unknown.)
It was the T.D. in me that first came round to being in favour of clock play for some players / events. I needed a tool to prevent the Snails and Tortoises of our game from ruining the experiences of those that do play at an acceptable rate, but at the same time would not diminish the enjoyment or the skill of the game and might even add a better element to our game. After discussions, trials and errors I found that tool in clocks.
To answer what I think is your implied question: I do not view the proposal of Touch Move / Lift Move as being a valid tool of advancing tournament backgammon as the use of clock rules, I'm sure you of all people Bob will agree, undoubtedly has.
