Bringing them home

I looked at all three of these positions. I know that 16/8 feels the worst. The points we prefer to occupy in this sort of position are the 7-away point (from White's anchor) and the 7pt. 16/8 leaves one fewer shot but it doesn't put the checkers where we want them. Between the remaining plays I'm less sure, because one of them puts a checker on the 7pt and one of them puts a checker on the 7-away point. However, I think that putting the checkers on the 11pt and 9pt is slightly better; it gives us some chance of cleaning up both blots at once, and if we clean up one blot at a time, I think it will be more efficient. The blot on the 7pt is "too easy" to clean up and the blot on the 13pt is "too hard" to clean up in one roll.
I outlined some general principles for handling these sorts of positions in this old post.
