i think about playing safe to just about lock up the game or to risk extra losses and make the gammon play....then i look to identify both plays , the safe play is the easy one 5-1 4-1 , then i look at the gammon options, take two men off or put white on the bar against my 4 point board....looking at the position closely reveals to me that taking two men off doesnt really help my gammon chances much at all, if i do get hit on the 3 point then unless i roll a 4-4 return im not exactly happy about all my other enter numbers due to the persistent blot on my 1 point and his ownership of the cube...and when white misses me, he normally runs off this gammon due to blues checker distribution....putting white on the bar against blues 4 point board does a much better job of increasing gammons simply by preventing white from getting home when he dances and if white does hit from the bar i dont have that persistant blot on the 1 point to worry about....my play over the board would prob be the safe play....oh and rolling 66 or 55 and leaving a shot after the safe play should be put into the happy category, it does get you closer to where u want to be:)
