Dear Julia,
thank you very much for your comments.
1. To promote SWISS system tournament is not more complicated as normal knockout competition. Chess, checkers and GO TD's promotes such competition many years. Surely for quick work you need some kind of software. And those TD's, who decide to promote this format, receive this software: Competition Manager. You can download and test it from http://www.competition-manager.com/downloads/cm_std_v1.1.4.zip. 2. According to "plenty of perverse incentives" of some players during the preliminary tournament that you have found like possible problem or trouble. There are some specific organisational recourses, that TD receives. Besides that, the players are hungry for money. And preliminary tournament is pure money games! 3. Against slow play - penalty GP's for slow player for each not played game. 4. According to collude with his opp to receive some kind of advantage. Do you want to give your money for your opp for free? Or what? And where is his advantage in this case? And your profit? Why it should be interesting for anybody to do like this? 5. Rebuy is not coming in the finish results to achieve your place in the best 8, because all rebuy's GP's will be subtracted from finish result. 6. AND THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR FANTASTIC COMMENT: "Backgammon is not like tennis, or 1990's snooker, or any other sport where a handful of individuals are so far above the rest they dominate every event." It is a huge mistake of normal players! They suppose that backgammon (as well as poker, scat, preferance and other intellectual games) is some kind of game of chance! They don't know that all such games mask under this identification and in the reality is not like that. Sure you can win one game against Kit Woolsey, Neil Kazaross or Nick Ballard, you can supposedly win a match till 11 or 13 points too, but I suppose that you have not more than 3% chances to win against these guys money in 8-10 games! And NEVER come in the best 8 in any tournament (format I proposed!!!) where more than 8 big names played.
I suppose that in BACKGAMMON (as well as in POKER, Scat, Preferance and another intellectual games) the best players are dominated above the rest. The main problem: how you can prove that? Which kind of tournament should TD promote to show that? And I suppose (because of main features of this game) that the best way: to promote such form of competition that allow us to find the best players. If it really works (and I know it works!, because we promoted such format of BG tournament more than one year in Ukraine), then we become new view on this game and new possibilities for players as well as for TD's. And what more important - absolutely fair presentation of this game for sport society like a sport kind of competition: YOU ARE WELCOME in INTELLECTUAL OLYMPIC GAMES!
Thank you once more for your remarks and comments.
