I think JF recommends 24/16*, and those guys might have been attuned to JF in 1998. Ballard viewed JF's weenie tendencies with a jaundiced eye back then, so I expect he made his 4 point, though I'm not sure what he would have done with the remaining 2's.

Now we know the 4 point is too good to pass up. I slightly prefer the 22 point over the 11, not only to challenge White's builder and reduce White's blocking potential, but because White's back checkers are already split so Blue's blocking plans lose a little force.

A generation prior to 1998, you would have seen many people playing 24/20(2). Golden Point a winner.
