It's not inconceivable that someone could figure out a clever way to do the equivalent of variance reduction for actual statistics, but I don't see offhand how to do it.

If we had a rudimentary way of quickly estimating actual statistics on evaluation level, variance reduction could work for actual statistics just as it does for equity, I think. And how difficult can it be to derive an actual statistics estimate from the w/g/bg breakdown? I'm not sure, but I think it's possible.
