I disagree...this is not what that implies. What this implies is that there is no luck when the only two variables are odds and skill. If you take a situations where there is no skill involved, such as flipping a coin, then yes, it is all odds or luck--whatever you decide to call it, it amounts to the same thing. But if you have a coin that you know is weighted on one side and is more likely to come up heads, and you are able to figure that out, then now there is skill involved, and you will win more often if you call the right answer, and you will lose more if you call the wrong one.
And that is what backgammon is. There are random rolls of the dice, but your odds are changed by knowing which rolls are more likely to come up and how they will play if you move your checkers the right way. If you learn those odds, and the right ways to move the checkers, you will win more, and if you don't learn them, you won't.
If you want to believe that backgammon is luck, why bother to make the 5 point with an opening 3-1? You do it because, whether you admit it or not, the better you play the more you will win, and that has nothing to do with luck.
