Refute this argument, please (I know someone will!)

I don't agree with the way Phil formulates it, and to me it is obvious that there is luck in backgammon and that it can be useful to talk about luck in backgammon.

But I am also trying to find what Phil finds interesting about this statement, and I think that is the focus away from the impact of luck on odds (equity) maximization. If that is right, I can agree with Phil's main point, without agreeing on the language, and we are again a step closer to world peace ;-)
