addendum

There are factory presets that aren't lost when you take the batteries out, but on my GameTime-II clock all the USER presets disappear if the batteries are taken out.

I've taken my clock through lots of airports and haven't been quizzed about it. The few times they want to look in my board, apparently the two columns of stacked checkers can look like a big spring in the X-ray and they think that might be something goofy.
