I'm trying to make sense out of the advise you attribute to Robertie, and the best I can do is assume you have badly confused his rule for doubling:
  1. Give yourself a better than average roll (but not your best).
  2. Give your opponent a worse than average roll (but not his worst).
  3. If you have lost your market, then you should double now.
  4. Otherwise, you can double later, and your opponent will still take.
Certainly, he never recommended that you, "always consider the positions after your move and your opponet's BEST reply".
