If I had only one physical computer (even a laptop would suffice) and had to try and minimize the risk of detection I'd likely use VMware under a host OS (Linux or Windows, doesn't matter). I'd run two Virtual sessions. One where the bot runs exclusively and one with the client software (Gridgammon, SHG etc) runs. The client software would be allocated one processor and the bot Session would be given the rest. In this environment the client would appear to be using a single processor. If you had code running in that client session that was suppose to look for spikes the influence from the other sessions would be negligible. In this situation you can do anything that would have required a two computer installation.

Someone may ask, do I run XG2 (and GNUBG) in VMWare and does it work with multiple processors? The answer is yes, but not as efficiently (but still very good). In my case I use one of my servers with 8 physical cores and associate 6 processors for the XG session, leaving two for everything else. When I need the computing power that XG is using I simply suspend the VMWARE session and then restore it after, which is very convenient when running rollouts (ie. Deprelli study). I don't need to fiddle with starting and stopping rollouts in the bots themselves.
