I see this as a choice between playing quietly by lifting the blot on 9, or attacking with 5/1*. Attacking is bound to win more gammons, but risks a disaster if the dice turns against us. But even if we are hit back, XG still has three men behind a 5-prime, and currently two blots in the home board. I think the extra risk is not big enough to justify the passive play and the fewer gammons.
