I make the 4 point. It provides us with the five-prime (and yes that is how I write it >> >> >> ) that we want more, the one that is a step forward in our noble quest to crush Black on the ace point and win a gammon. We can then reasonably expect we will eventually get a 2 and then a 6, or see Black break up first and let us out. Barring those outcomes, we might break first, but then Black still may not escape before we do.

It also isn't too important to get to the edge before more builders arrive. If we've rolled our prime successfully, Black's game plan of attacking, then escaping both back men, isn't all that likely to work. Too long a road to Canaan.

Agreed with Rory that Peoria is a good tourney to attend. If you live anywhere near there, why not consider checking it out? This is also a tourney I'd recommend to anyone here who has never attended a live event. It's a serious tourney, but not "hard-core"--it's definitely newbie-friendly.
