53 to play

Another toughie that bears some similarities to Chuck's DMP problem in that we'd like to escape a back checker, but have to consider whether doing so is too bold. Here we're leading 3a6a holding the cube so the incentive to play safe is higher. The natural safe play would seem to be 9/6 8/3. The bolder play is to play 23/18 and find a 3; 23/15 threatens to make the back of our prime but 23/18 9/6 cleans up a blot. I like 23/15 a bit better though possibly it's too bold.

If we play boldly and are hit, White still has quite a bit of work to do to leap both checkers over our five-prime, especially since one of the checkers is not at the edge of our prime yet. In the process she might crunch. If we play safely then we are the ones in danger of crunching. Despite the gammon danger I think I will try 23/15.
