In the first position backgammons are HUGE at this score while gammons are nothing special. See for youself:

BG Price = [100-33]/[33-0]=2

Gammon Price = [50-33]/[33-0]=0.5

I think it is correct to take a small risk to go for a backgammon when it is soooooo close rather than settle for a gammon.

In the second position white should be able to win a gammon if he doesn't get hit. So, just play not to get hit. Clearing 2pt is the best way to get hit [not counting leaving shots for no reason], as it creates a gap with 3 pts to clear.
