I have one Pacific Backgammon Association newsletter with master point listings as of 10/20/1982. Jay was number 9. Wwithout endorsing this type of list as a measurement of skill, the top 12 are:

Nack was 14th at 119

Jay was a top player in the Championship Division at Day's in at the time.
