In this particular problem I noted the opp's 8pt was not stripped. We also have the choice here between two plays one which leaves zero blots and the other which leaves three. When answering the 3 fundamental questions to any play (wins more games, wins more gammons, loses more gammons) you now have the answer to one of those three, the 3 blot play losing more gammons.
If you made the blot leaving playing you don't have any spares on your midpoint to cover it. And at least to some extent you are diversifying your opponent's playable rolls. With equal boards and the split you leave him some real jokers and a bunch of trash rolls where he can at least keep you occupied by slapping away at your blots. If you don't split it's easy to see he has no purely offensive jokers. Bringing the man to the 8pt I believe gives you more offensive good rolls than leaving him on the 10pt since you won't want to break the 8pt unless you're attacking.
