In general in the early game, if you hit loose on your 5pt or 4pt and have the option of continuing on to hit on the 1pt, your instinct should be to keep the 5pt or 4pt slotted, because typically, doing so gains a great deal when you are missed. Of course there are factors that will sometimes point you towards the double hit, e.g.:
1. There's no good way to play the roll otherwise. Here that's not the case; the 3 unstacks your midpoint nicely.
2. Keeping the point slotted leaves you too vulnerable to attack, so that you must double hit to cut down on return shots. Here you're not that vulnerable; though White has ten checkers in the zone, she has only two points in her home board and you have made your 5pt.
3. Your position is strong enough that you have good blitzing chances. That's not true here since you have only 8 checkers in the zone.
If on the other hand you hit loose on the 2pt then usually it will be a good play to continue on to the 1pt with an ace (unless of course you have an obvious strong ace elsewhere), because leaving the 2pt slotted rarely has much value. Hitting loose on the 3pt is an intermediate case where the decision is typically more delicate.
