Do you know the term "zugzwang"? The anchor might be an illusion, because there can be a squeeze situation in the future. And 1 or two checkers on the bar, dancing a while could also end in a gammon. Every gammon wins the match. So it is extremely valuable for us. There is some difficulty for the tiny little beast to get at work later with his dilly board. If our gammon chances are dwindling away, there is time enough, to double him out or in for the match.
