Then why did you enter the tournament?

I have a hard time being sympathetic with either side here. If you care about your rating, then you should be happy to have the match rated. If you don't care about your rating, then it shouldn't make any difference to you whether the match is rated or not.

However, since there may be a dispute, it is a good idea if the tournament rules spell out ahead of time whether preference should for rated or unrated matches. In the absence of such a rule, I agree with Justin that unrated matches should be the preference. (But I think it is silly that someone would make an issue of it one way or the other.)
