I agree, but the problem is when you're playing someone who is new to GG and, for example has a skill level of 1850 but a 1550 rating with maybe 30 experience. I play him rated anyhow and just accept it as a cost of doing business, but I really don't care much about my GG rating and if I did I would 1) always play sober and 2) play at half the speed of my normal near blitz online speed.

However, others do care more about their ratings and don't like giving 12 to 2 odds when the real odds should be 7 to 7 for example.

As for those with low experience they can play lower rated players as pickups for a while until their rating grows and becomes established.

This is a sticky point, but I agree that if both players' ratings are established, they should play rated unless both don't want to.
