Is it actually $15K to win $30K? Then calling with AJ is not "standard"; it is AUTOMATIC. Six-handed, at this level of play, with these chip stacks, on television, in a double straddle situation, with Tony G up against Hellmuth raising from the big blind? Tony G is likely to make this move with any pair, sometimes with Ax (just ask Ralph Perry), and sometimes on complete air. Hellmuth will be the favorite a lot of the time and, even against AK, he is only a 3-1 dog.

Tony G's lie actually hurt his chances by prompting Hellmuth to consider mucking a hand he would have called with anyway.
