How I was tricked at a poker tournament

Big Blind states he is going all-in blind and shoves all his chips in the middle before the cards have even been dealt. I look down and see pocket aces and gleefully push all in. Everyone else folds and big blind throws me his initial chips from the blind and says you win. I protested to the tournament director who says the big blind bet out of turn and was not committed to that all-in bet. Big Blind was not penalized or reprimanded. As an aside, the TD said that if I had merely called the Big Blind, then his all-in chips in the middle would have been ruled a raise and I could then call his raise. Was his action a scumbag move or crafty gamesmanship?
