World Series Game 6 (OT) - Questions

In Response To: World Series Game 6 (OT) (Rory)

Luckily when I walked in from tennis tonight the game was on and I plopped down and watched it. I haven't watched baseball since '94 - attend a few Reds games a year but definitely don't follow it in the least. It was initially a sloppy game but eventually turned interesting and some of the slop was taken out in the later innings. I wouldn't rank it in the top 5 of all time but if all baseball games could be that exciting maybe our national past time would be reborn. (and my baseball cards would be worth more than a postage stamp again)

A few of questions for those of you like me who watch things and judge how they are called or managed. (like we usually do w/Football here at BGO)

  1. In the bottom of the 9th inning with the Cardinals trailing by 2 runs with 1 out and men on 1st and 2nd. Lance Berkman, the right fielder, is on 1st base. The Cardinals had used up all their bench players at this point and only had pitchers to pool from if they were going to bring in a pinch runner for example. I had the thought at the time because Berkman looked like a slow tubby bitch. I had no idea what position he played, etc... Now I can tell you what position he plays and that all year he stole 2 bases. I thought maybe they should put in a pinch runner if indeed he was slow. Thoughts?

  2. Same exact situation but not there are two outs. It seems crystal clear to me to put in the pinch runner now. Even if it wasn't correct in the above scenario because again, I didn't know who Berkman was at the time, only saw him and figured him to be slow, I don't believe (m)any coach(es) would have put in a pinch runner. With 2 outs a triple was hit and my scenario should have played out and I would have loved to have heard the post thoughts on the pinch runner situation. The Rangers right fielder though played the ball for shit and turned a should be double into an easy triple.

  3. Bottom of the 10th, Cardinals trail by 2 runs again. Two men on with nobody out and they decide to bunt the men over. Is this right?
