In Response To: World Series Game 6 (OT) - Questions (Stick)

In the bottom of the 9th inning with the Cardinals trailing by 2 runs with 1 out and men on 1st and 2nd. Lance Berkman, the right fielder, is on 1st base. The Cardinals had used up all their bench players at this point and only had pitchers to pool from if they were going to bring in a pinch runner for example. I had the thought at the time because Berkman looked like a slow tubby bitch. I had no idea what position he played, etc... Now I can tell you what position he plays and that all year he stole 2 bases. I thought maybe they should put in a pinch runner if indeed he was slow. Thoughts?

Berkman is a slow tubby bitch, but they were out of bench players. They simply can't do it, because if they are so fortunate to tie the game, a pitcher has to play the outfield.

Same exact situation but not there are two outs. It seems crystal clear to me to put in the pinch runner now. Even if it wasn't correct in the above scenario because again, I didn't know who Berkman was at the time, only saw him and figured him to be slow, I don't believe (m)any coach(es) would have put in a pinch runner. With 2 outs a triple was hit and my scenario should have played out and I would have loved to have heard the post thoughts on the pinch runner situation. The Rangers right fielder though played the ball for shit and turned a should be double into an easy triple.

Cruz (the right fielder) didn't play it great, but it was a tough play.

Same answer on the pinch runner.

Bottom of the 10th, Cardinals trail by 2 runs again. Two men on with nobody out and they decide to bunt the men over. Is this right?

It's right in a lot of circumstances, and here it's dead on right, because the guy batting was a pitcher... the Cardinals were out of position players, and had to send a starting pitcher up to bat. They were unbelievably fortunate to be in a situation where that pitcher could do something positive.

I have more to add on this later, but I'm in a hurry now. I am of the opinion that this is quite possibly the greatest baseball game ever played. If it's not, then I think nobody will argue putting it in the top 5 ever.
