lenny: Berkman is a pro hitter who is also skillful in the outfield.

Looks like you fell into the old trap of seeing an above average hitter and transferring their abilities at the plate to the field. Berkman is NOT skillful in the outfield. Berkman, throughout his career, has been a below average defensive player. I looked it up, and the stats bear it out:
