Everyone loses sight of what I actually said in the original post and I'm too lazy anymore to go back and nitpick correct every last detail. I played baseball up til the time that everyone plays baseball and I'd like to think I'd have no problem whatsoever running the base paths with 2 out better than some tubby bitch. I can lead off just fine and as for sliding, since it's the WS, I go in Pete Rose style.
I haven't lost sight of a damn thing. Random pitcher off the bench is probably faster than Berkman, and you probably have a small increase in probability of scoring that tying run. But it's not just about getting that tying run. You have to win the game too, and that's where you're going to lose big time. If the Cardinals had another player on the bench who could play the field, pinch running has a chance to be right. In this situation, there's no chance of it being right.
