I don't think I'd double here because it's still too easy for White to slip between our fingers. With five checkers off, she might even be able to take if we hit; I'm not sure.

If you really want the answer to this question, the way to start to address it is to collect a bunch of tricky decisions (checker play and cube, but especially cube) that will arise in the next couple of turns. See how often 3-ply or 4-ply evaluation agrees with a rollout. If evaluation frequently disagrees with rollout then you probably can't trust either one. If they agree almost always, then that doesn't necessarily mean that you can trust the rollout, but it's at least one sanity check.
