53P-62 and 64P-62, also

I did some research a while ago which indicated that the slotting play is more flexible at different scores than splitting. (I don't remember if we discussed that at the time or not. This may be the third time I am posting this story.) For example, when the slot is hit, you may have the option of hitting again the next turn or making a defensive play. Score may dictate your choice. Play was more likely to be invariant by score after splitting. I believe my work was done on the 53P-x1 family. This appears to be the main reason that $ frequently outperforms what would be expected based on a static conversion of money results to other scores.
The second reason I found is that backgammons are no worse than gammons at GS. This is far less significant than the first point, but big enough to be noticed in the data. At GS, you can often wait for that final shot and can save the gammon or even win when you hit it. For money, you may need to run and accept the loss of a gammon.
