There's a nice example of this sort of thing in Paul Lamford's book Improve Your Game. I don't have the book on me right now but I think it's among the first 20 cube problems. Lamford points out that springing the checker free can be more problematic than you might think. Here I thought that having the 20pt anchor would be enough compensation, but apparently that is not the case in the presence of White's broken board.
