1. Call me crazy but my play is 8/2*, 6/5* trying to win both 5-points. Looks like a long game ahead. I see the race as unimportant, and would rather jockey for position while trying to activate the guys on the 6-point.

2. Better board, up in the race, nice structure… Double for sure. Can white take? Maybe. It’s a low gammon game and he could win via a fly shot, or by coming in low and getting a shot later. Still, I don’t like it. White offense is weak at the moment and he can’t hold the midpoint too long. Throw in 36 pips down (a lot!) and the made bar point and I say drop. Double/ Drop

3. Looks like a close call since the usual factors point both ways.

We might be able to outwait White and never leave a shot. White’s position is great now (a hit almost always wins), but rates to get worse in the future. Argues pay later.

On the other hand, we get the maximum discount by leaving only 11 hits now, stalling both crashes the board and wastes pips for the race. Argues pay now.

I pay now. 13/8, 19/9.
