Cube action?

There are an infinite amount of real OtB positions that come up where weaker players should adjust their play, especially their cube play, if they want to have a better chance of beating someone like Neil. Do they over do it? I have no idea. The problem is do they even know they should be doing it and the proper circumstances under which to do it? I doubt it...if they did they wouldn't be such weak players to begin with.
There was one match when I was in Paris (Enghien) last year. I played someone much weaker than me and we were in a very complicated position. I was holding a 2 cube and redoubled. In my mind I thought it was a technical redouble but I was shipping back a 4 cube early in the match and that opens up the opportunities for an 8 cube to come back in my face which I always hate.
At the time I showed it to a few strong players afterward and told them the estimated still difference between myself and the other player. Everyone wanted me to hold the cube because again, it was probably only a technical double in the .050 range and there was a noticeable skill difference, so why did I cube?
First, there's the obvious - the position was overly complicated and there was the possibility, however small, that my opponent might drop. I did not think he would drop so that was not my reason for doubling. He did take OtB. What followed in the upcoming sequence was why I doubled. He blundered, then he double blundered, then he triple blundered, then he created a new item on the menu at BK that they named after him. I knew that from his earlier play he would piss away so much equity in this position I felt I wanted to play it out.
One of my big regrets is no longer having this position and how it played out. It would make an excellent long article in and of itself.
