Greetings all - Occasional poster but heavy reader Steve Schreiber here. Hope you all don't mind some Intermediate level participation on the Quiz.
POSITION 1: DOUBLE - DROP It feels like any 3 or 4 (with the exception of double 3's) is a Market Loser for Blue as it begins the back checker escape process, and provides more timing to continue the escape process for the last checker, so I double NOW. Can White take this? I don't think so, as Blue's good rolls outnumber his bad.
POSITION 2: Bar 20 / 8 - 4* White has a racing game here, and any other 4 allows white to race, so I hit with 8 - 4*. Now that I have a 5-point anchor in White's home board, I don't feel quite as bad about being hit, especially with the bar point anchor present as well.
POSITION 3: DOUBLE - DROP White has to work on both sides of the board to get past the other-wise 15% winning chances of an ace-point game, and, might crunch before Blue does anyway. All that work feels like too much of a stretch for White to be able to take this cube, so I'm not sure if it's a Double. On the other hand, it's unlikely Blue will pick up the 3rd checker to significantly raise gammon win potential, so I go ahead and double.
Steve
