I'll add a couple of notes to Mike's excellent summary.

In the 1970s, the Mayfair Bridge and Backgammon Club thrived in Manhattan (New York). Some of the top players loved to split, come down and make and inside point with an early double 2s (24/22 13/11 6/4(2)) or even double 3s (24/21 13/10 6/3(2)), aiming to gain superior control in all four quadrants. It seemed like the type of play worth devoting a Nactation letter to, so I allocated M to stand for "Mayfair split."

Later, when I developed the areal scheme of far, down, jump and inside, M (Mayfair split) could be formalized as 1 far, 1 jump, 0 downs, and 2 insides, abbreviated as 1102. It also covers the similar 1120: an example is 62S-31P-55, where M = 18/13 13/8 8/3(2).

Mike created a table for the M family in Mochy's position, 64S-64X-22. To sum up Mike's notes, making the 4pt clearly outranks breaking the 8pt (by "most points"), and by outer board wrinkle an 11pt blot destination (farther from the 6pt and therefore in a typically less vulnerable spot) outranks a 7pt blot destination. The capital M (second best play only to Q) is awarded to bar/23 13/11 6/4(2); and the fourth M-family member, the lower-case italic m is doled out to the horrible bar/23 9/7 8/6(2). Neither M nor m is a play that a human would ever make.]

Finally, Mike pointed out a good opportunity to use the style letter P (my preference) in place of the areal letter Q for bar/23 8/6 6/4(2) in Mochy's 64S-64X-22 position. It is very similar to the example of 51$-43U-22 that I gave here: either P or Q works well for bar/23 8/6 6/4(2) in either that position or Mochy's position.
