Interesting Dumey for Dummies link! Obviously I'm a newcomer to the OLM so I'm not sure how much weight my opinion should count for. Judging by my personal PR perhaps not much, but it is that PR and my attempts to shrink it that compel me to respond to this post. I have so much to figure out in basic backgammon that playing variations on the game have no interest for me. I hope that if you do decide to start an OLNM you will also continue with backgammon classic and not make the mistake Coke did back in the '80's.
That said, perhaps my motivations for following and playing here are different from others. I doubt Neilkaz is using this to learn much. I know there have been many discussions about whether one should read other comments before deciding on their play and I find that discussion quite interesting in and of itself. I find reading the comments of others here to be a fantastic way of learning and they sometimes do persuade me that my move is wrong. Personally, I have decided from now on to decide my move before looking at anyone else's comments and, if I am persuaded that I am wrong to state that in my comments but to vote my initial choice. Even if it's retrospectively a major blunder and despite the fear of losing what shred of credibility I may yet have. And I hope that, if my reasoning is just...off that someone will not feel too uncomfortable pointing out its flaws. Politely is nice, but constructively is really what matters.
And having enjoyed reading your reasoning in the past, Timothy, may I say that I am sorry you have decided to opt out. Our loss.
