Backgammon Literature on Doubling

I agree with all your points, except that if someone where to write a complete, definitive guide to doubling, it would be far too long and extensive or it would be incomplete. Doubling must be broken down into the different kinds of positions and scores to be properly understood, and that could take volumes.
I can, however, give you the "Quick Guide" to Doubling:
1. Know your take points and gammon values;
2. If you are the leader, use Woolsey's Law, and double if you are not sure it is a take;
3. If you are the taker, use "Reverse" Woolsey's Law, and take if you are not sure it is a double.
4. If you are Woolsey, I guess you'll have to just rely on yourself!
